After years of barely wearing ear defenders due to laziness, the fact they’re uncomfortable at times or just pushing on with the task at hand and not thinking about it, I started to develop an occasional slight ringing in my ears. I wouldn’t really notice it until I got home from work and relaxed on the sofa or until I got into bed at night.

I’ve owned cheap pairs in the past, but I just find them uncomfortable and they irritate me when I’m wearing safety glasses. So, after scouring the internet looking at the various options, I bit the bullet and ordered a pair of ISOtunes FREE and I have to say they are fantastic!

The packaging they come in is a nice box with a magnetic lid which contains the earbuds, various ear tips, a case, charging cable and of course instructions etc. One of the coolest features is the case, which aside from storing and protecting your earbuds, also charges them. So, once the case is charged via the supplied USB C cable, it can charge them for an additional 14 hours on top of the 7-hour battery life of the earbuds.

The case takes only 2 hours to fully recharge and the earbuds 1.5 hours. The earbuds are held in the case magnetically which is great, so you’re not worried about them falling out. The case itself is small so it will fit nicely in your pocket, so you don’t have to walk all the way back to the van, which is great if you’re lazy like me!

The earbuds themselves fit nicely in your ear and this is made better by using the array of tips supplied in the box. They can connect to your phone wirelessly via Bluetooth 5.0, so if you like a bit of a boogie at work then this is great for playing your favourite songs or taking phone calls using the built-in background noise cancelling microphone.

Aside from the fun stuff, the most important feature is that they reduce noise by 22db which makes a huge difference when you have them in. However, you can still hear what’s going on around you and hear people when they talk to you, so they are still safe on site and they are OSHA and NIOSH certified. The earbuds are also IP45 rated, which mean they are dust, sweat and water resistant.

Overall, I think these are fantastic ear defenders. They’re lightweight, fit nicely into your ear and since I’ve owned them, I haven’t had any ringing or other problems with my ears. The handy size is a massive bonus and the battery life is great. I tend to wear them all day if I’m on site and have never had any problems. Although I would advise when you stop for lunch to put them in the case to ensure you don’t run out of charge at any point.

Additionally, they do offer an industrial version if that’s what you require.
